“Spencer is a 2021 historical psychological drama film directed by Pablo Larraín from a screenplay by Steven Knight. The The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold. Though rumors of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be profoundly different. “Spencer” is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.”

Although based in fiction (the movie starts with the line, “A fable from a true tragedy”), this movie is an interesting character study on someone I did not know that much about. I took everything in the movie with a grain of salt since it wasn’t a factual biopic; but I still felt like I understood Diana’s struggles better and was able to gain the context of her life in the royal family. It’s also a movie I didn’t expect to like as much as I did. Everything from the music to the cinematography kept me invested.
