Mother. Wife. Sister. Human. Warrior. Falcon. Yardstick. Turban. Cabbage.

I enjoy a book that is both sweet and gross. So I enjoyed Rob Delaney’s “Mother. Wife. Sister. Human. Warrior. Falcon. Yardstick. Turban. Cabbage.”

I first encountered Delaney in “Catastrophe”, the amazing British show created by him and Sharon Horgan, which is also sweet and gross. I guess it’s a thing with him.

I think the book is sweet and gross because it is extremely honest (and funny), and Rob Delaney seems like a nice guy who has done his fair share of truly dumb things. He talks about his family and friends, growing up in Marblehead, and art. He also talks about his alcoholism and rehab, and getting Hep A along with many of his coworkers while working at MTV.

For fans of: adult comedy, memoir, “Catastrophe”, the scatological and the sweet.

If you enjoy the above, I think you’ll very much enjoy this book. It’s really well written, laugh out loud funny, and, bonus—there’s a good chunk of Essex County reminiscing, including a creepy family foray into a boarded-up Danvers State Hospital.
