The Reappearance of Rachel Price

Holly Jackson
Published: 2024
Age Range: 14+
Genre: Mystery

In Holly Jackson’s latest young adult mystery, Bel Price’s family is the focus of a new documentary being filmed based on the disappearance of her mother, Rachel Price. Rachel Price disappeared 16 years ago without a trace. Her car was found on the side of the road, running, with the heat on and the doors closed, with 2 year old Bel safely buckled into her carseat in the back. After an extensive search, she was presumed dead and Bel’s father, Charlie, was suspected of murder. Now, 16 years later, after leaving the film crew, Bel runs into a disheveled woman on her way home. The woman? Rachel Price.

Bel should be happy that her mother is back right? But she feels deep down that something’s wrong, that maybe Rachel planned her disappearance and reappearance, that she’s come back with an ulterior motive. With the help of one of the film crew’s camera assistants, she decides to do a little sleuthing of her own. But what she finds may change everything she thought she knew.

If you’ve read and enjoyed Jackson’s The Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series then you will definitely love this title as well. I love Jackson’s teenage girl protagonists, they’re always such strong, smart, and sarcastically funny young woman. She also has a way for weaving a mystery that you’re sure you’ve figured out and then completely throws you for a loop, giving you whiplash.
