The Green Knight doesn’t aim to be a faithful retelling of 14th-century chivalric romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, but it remains very conscious of the fact that it is a retelling of a medieval tale, rich in allegory and larger-than-life characters. On the other hand, the script is infused with a dark, quirky sense of humor throughout that hails solidly from the realm of a modern indie film. Dev Patel gives an amazing performance as Gawain, and the production design really stands out.
In short, for a film that’s seasonal but not festive, The Green Knight is a great option.
