“A restless young journalist with big dreams interviews a Hollywood heartthrob–and, ten years later, it’s clear that their time together meant more than meets the eye in this sexy, engrossing adult debut novel.”
Did I pick this book up because of the fun cover? 100% yes. Did I end up really enjoying it? Also yes! I was pleasantly surprised by the past and present format of the book, sometimes I find those types of romance books to be underwhelming. But “Funny You Should Ask” does a great job of balancing the two and using the two time periods to really develop the characters and not just set up a major misunderstanding. Mostly, I really appreciated Chani as a leading lady. She was incredible smart and independent and one of the most relatable romance characters I’ve encountered in a while. Elissa Sussman also has a natural talent at writing funny and clever dialogue. I would say even though this book is not as steamy as some other more recent romance releases, it was still full of tension and heart (and still some R-rated scenes, don’t get me wrong!). As Elissa Sussman has mostly written YA before this novel, I am anxiously awaiting her next adult romance book!
