Are you a performing artist, established or aspiring? Join HPL for an Open Mic Night on Thursday, May 19 at 7:00 PM! Come and sing, play an instrument. read poetry, or more! Share your art with us. Our featured guest this month is Surya Sarkhel!
Surya (Arundhati) is a trained classical dancer, Tabla player, songwriter, singer, poet, and artist, and a bit of a comedian. She has performed all over the USA for more than four decades, dancing, poetry reading, and Tabla playing. She is a longtime Haverhill resident and American citizen. Her new book “Love Haverhill” is going to publish soon. She has already published a few books in her mother language and in English, and has won a prize for her poetry and Indian dance. She has loved to write poetry from a young age and art is in her blood. Recently she danced to Boston singer Mark Bishop Evans’ song. She has appeared locally at Hearing Room, HC Media, Haverhill Library, Senior Center, Haverhill Court House, Sapne (Asian poetry group), One Broadway Collaborative, and last year she danced at the Haverhill Multicultural program. Her article about Diwali (celebration of light) was published with her art in a local paper (Merrimac Valley). See her dance, share her artwork, and read one of her poems! She may also sing or play a little Tabla.
Light refreshments will be provided.
