6/1 | 11am-12pm | Spanish Conversation Practice

Are you looking to improve your conversational Spanish in a supportive and friendly environment? Join us! Come practice your Spanish speaking and learn some vocab, the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month, 11am-12pm.

6/1 | 1-4pm | On Screen: Dune: Part 2

Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the universe, he must prevent a terrible future only he can foresee. Rated PG-13. Free, no registration required.

This month we will be watching Best Picture nominees from the 1990s. Today we watch Ghost (1990) starring Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg. Rated PG-13

Chair yoga is a great form of exercise for older adults who have difficulty with balance or want to improve their strength. Chairs can provide stability or make exercise easier for a beginner. The movements typically involve sitting in the chair while stretching and holding poses or standing and using the chair for balance. Chair yoga has many benefits and can help one to regain flexibility, strengthen muscles, improve balance, relieve stress, reduce the risk of falls and boost energy levels.

Calling all fiber artists! Bring your current project and work on it in the company of other fiber arts enthusiasts. 

6/5 | 7-8:30pm | Pop Up Art School: Watercolor Mountains

Follow along step-by-step as we paint a serene mountain landscape using watercolor paint. Learn about atmospheric perspective and how to create a sense of the depth in your painting. You’ll create 2 to 3 smaller watercolor paintings so you can practice and become confident when painting wet on wet and wet on dry.

The SHINE Program can help! SHINE: Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone…on or eligible for Medicare.

Are you, a friend or a loved one turning 65, and/or considering retirement and confused about Medicare? You are not alone – a SHINE counselor can explain your options.

You are invited to attend an “Introduction to Medicare” informational session Wednesday, June 12, 6:00 p.m., at the Haverhill Public Library, 99 Main St., Haverhill

Learn about the structure of Medicare, when to enroll, cost-savings programs and helpful tips to choose plans that suit you, your lifestyle and your Medicare insurance needs.

This session will be presented by a certified SHINE Counselor who provides free, unbiased, Medicare health insurance information and will help guide you through all your Medicare options so you will be an empowered, educated consumer.

Mindfulness is a great way to alleviate stress, develop more creativity, and cultivate more peace in your life. The practice can be added to any lifestyle and can be done anywhere. No special equipment or skills needed! Come and learn how to use your breath, mind, and body as tools to help you be more present and peaceful even during times of stress. This hour-long mindfulness workshop with guided meditation will provide a great introduction and experiential learning opportunity. Wear comfy clothes and get ready for a relaxing and enlightening experience! 

Laura Klain is a Certified Life Coach and Therapist specializing in mindfulness. She has been practicing meditation for over 20 years and teaching for the last decade.

6/18 | 10-11am | Author Talk: Adam Smyth on “The Book-Makers – A History of the Book in Eighteen Lives” (VIRTUAL)

Books have transformed humankind by enabling authors to create, document, and entertain. Yet we know little about the individuals who brought these fascinating objects into existence and of those who first experimented in the art of printing, design, and binding. Who were the renegade book-makers who changed the course of history? We are thrilled to be chatting with author Adam Smyth about this topic so close to our hearts. We hope you can join us!

6/18 | 7-8pm | Magical Girls & Fighting Dreamers: An Exploration of Queer Representation in Anime (VIRTUAL)

The Morrill Memorial Library is thrilled to offer a virtual presentation by its own Youth Services Librarian, Dina Delic, called “Magical Girls and Fighting Dreamers: An Exploration of Queer Representation in Anime” on Tuesday, June 18 starting at 7:00pm on Zoom.

Join fellow anime-enthusiast and MML Youth Services Librarian Dina Delic to learn about the history of queer representation in manga and anime! This program will give an overview of queer representation throughout various series, from The Rose of Versailles to Yuri on Ice, and will answer your most pressing questions: What is shipping? What is the difference between yaoi and yuri? Why are the greatest love stories in anime always platonic?

Note: This program may contain spoilers for some series.

About the presenter: Dina Delic is a Youth Services Librarian at the Morrill Memorial Library. When she is not covering the Children’s Desk or ordering young adult books, Dina can be found attending conventions, running around Jo-Ann Fabrics getting materials for her next cosplay, and reading manga. Some of her favorite series include D.Gray-manFruits BasketHunterxHunter, and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures.

Join the HPL Adventurous Readers Club! You choose the books and lead the discussions!

This group of anyone 18 or older will feature books across the literary spectrum – whatever genre piques your interest!

We will meet the 4th Saturday of each month. No registration necessary – you can simply pick up a book (limited copies, first come, first served) on the holds shelf in the front of the library.

Our June book will be Pageboy, by Elliot Page.

A card making and paper crafting class for beginners as well as those with stamping and papercrafting experience.

We will be creating projects such as multi layered cards, bookmarks and 3-D Items, using several techniques including stamping, die cutting, and embossing.

6/25 | 7-8pm | Author Talk: R. O. Kwon’s “Exhibit” (VIRTUAL)

Join author R. O. Kwon (The Incendiaries) on her book tour as she discusses her new novel Exhibit. Please note, this is a virtual program hosted by Burlington Public Library.

6/26 | 6:30-7:30pm | Cookbook Club

Join us for our first cookbook club!

We’ll all cook a different recipe from one cookbook and then bring the dishes in to share and discuss, potluck-style, every OTHER 4th Wednesday of the month (our next meeting will be in August)!

  • Register as usual. 
  • Pick up and check out a copy of the cookbook from the Holds shelf (or you can use an e-book!).
  • Reserve the recipe you’d like to cook by emailing programming@haverhillpl.org.
  • You can cook anything from the book except alcoholic recipes (beverages, etc.).
  • Space is limited.
  • We will provide plates, eating utensils, and napkins (feel free to bring as well). Please bring serving utensils.
  • We cannot reheat or warm anything at the library.

We’ll meet Wednesday, June 26th from 6:30-7:30pm.

Our first cookbook will be Indian-ish by Priya Krishna.
