7/8 | 6-7 PM | Fermented Pickles Info & Demo
At this class on food preservation, you will learn the fundamentals of lacto-fermentation via a demonstration of how to make a carrot (or other seasonal) fermented pickle. Emily Makrez, owner of F-Word Farm and educator on all things fermenting, farming, and foraging related, will show you how to pickle what’s in season to make the most of your harvest and prevent food waste. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to be able to safely ferment practically anything! We will also touch on the benefits of lacto-fermented food and how adding these foods to our diets are a benefit to our overall health.

Take a plant, leave a plant! Stop in anytime between 2-3 PM to get a new-to-you plant!
- Bring up to 3 indoor or outdoor plants.
- Plants must be rooted in soil or propagations starting to root.
- Plants must be healthy and free of pests.
- Please label the type of plant. Labels will be provided, if needed.
- Take as many plants with you as you bring to the swap (example: bring 3 plants, can take up to 3 plants).
- Take as many as you want after 3 PM!
Don’t have any plants to swap? You’re still welcome to pick one up.

We’re thrilled to welcome Gracia Collins Rich, Independent Scholar, Author, and Avid Reader to our virtual stage. She will be discussing the extraordinary efforts of Black Americans whose invaluable contributions during the Revolutionary War helped bring about U.S. Independence. Gracia discusses ALL things history and all things on the origins of the United States even if it is uncomfortable because she believes that that is what leads to a better understanding of this Country and why some things are the way they are. We hope you can join us for this fascinating and important conversation!

Join us for another program in HPL’s Climate & Community Series!
Learn how to hand sew for free!
With basic sewing skills, you can practice sustainable habits by mending clothes or making art from materials you already have! Learn beginner skills like threading a needle, basic stitches, sewing buttons, mending fabric, and more. Bring any ongoing projects, or practice basic skills with the materials provided. Thread, needles, scissors, and scrap fabric will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. In this program, we’ll just focus on hand sewing rather than machine sewing.
Already an advanced sewist? Drop in to work on your own projects in company, or share your skills!
