First in a newer series of cozy mysteries, this is a fun novel for when you want an easy read with a bit of a twist. All the main characters are anthropomorphic creatures living in the quiet woodland community of Shady Hollow. Think Midsomer Murders meets Wind in the Willows.
Local curmudgeon, Otto the Toad, is murdered, which sets off a series of incidents, crimes, and murders. Intrepid reporter, Vera Vixen, frustrated by the authorities’ sleepy response–and eager to break the story–throws herself into the investigation and finds answers and danger along the way.
In a town where a moose runs the local coffee shop, a bear is the chief of police, and a raven named Lenore runs the bookshop, you’ve got to be willing to suspend disbelief and just have fun with it. This novel will appeal to people who enjoyed Beatrix Potter, Wind in the Willows, and other anthropomorphic stories, those who enjoy comedic cozy mysteries, or who like their stories with a little quirk.
