The Haverhill Public Library Special Collections Department has an extensive map collection, newly revised and updated!
In the latest round of revisions and additions to this collection, we sorted through hundreds of maps (and similar items) that have been hiding in the corners of our storage spaces for the past decade or so. We also completed the description and organization of previously unlisted regional maps, and we even found some more cemetery plot maps, which list veterans’ plots through World War I.
We’ve also added all of the blueprints and architectural plans we have found, for both residential and commercial/public buildings. Though just a small selection of local structures’ plans, there are some very beautiful, hand-rendered ones among them. Heads up! If the structure is extant, you’ll need to provide proof of address or bring written permission from the current owner or property manager to view these materials.
We are still working on getting this collection in our catalog, but we have completed its finding aid, which is like a collection inventory, available here: https://haverhillpl.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Haverhill_Public_Library_Map_Collection_Finding_Aid.pdf
If you are interested in viewing any maps that are listed in the finding aid, please visit the Special Collections Department on the 3rd Floor of the library! We are open Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Thursday afternoons, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. We are also open one or two Saturday afternoons per month – keep an eye on the Special Collections sidebar for the upcoming dates. >>>
