Becky Albertalli’s latest title follows high school senior Imogen and her discovering her bi-sexuality. Imogen has always been a staunch ally, her sister and best friends are queer. She’s up to date on all the queer media and attends her school’s GSA meetings. She’s straight with a capital S.
Then she goes to visit her best friend, Lili, who’s a freshman in college and discovers that Lili may have fudged a lie and told her new college friends that Imogen was her ex. Now Imogen has to spend the weekend pretending she’s also queer. But is she really pretending when Lili’s cute friend Tessa starts flirting with her and Imogen finds herself flirting back? Could she not be as straight as she thought she was?
I really loved this book! It was funny and sweet and affirming. Imogen is such a lovely character. It’s also Albertalli’s most personal book yet, and is loosely based on her own coming out as an adult – which she was basically forced into. If you are a fan of Albertalli’s other titles like Simon vs. the Homo Sapien Agenda and Leah on the Offbeat then you’re sure to love Imogen too!
