10/2 | 10 AM-12 PM | Friday Fun

Due to the renovation, Friday Flicks in the Auditorium is paused until further notice!

Instead, join us for Friday Fun in the Milhendler Room! Same time (10 AM – 12 PM), but different activities! Drop in weekly for crafts, games, and other fun activities for adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities! Registration is not required, but please note that the room capacity is 30 people. Drop in for a little while or the whole 2 hours!

10/5 | 6-7:30 PM | English (ESL) Conversation Circle

Would you like to practice your English with native speakers in a relaxed and informal environment? Join us for a friendly chat–Monday evenings at 6 PM.

10/6 | 5:30-8:30 PM | Play Mah Jongg

Join us on the first Tuesday of every month! Drop in anytime in the 3-hour block to play Mah Jongg!  Limited supplies are provided, but you may bring your own!

No registration required.

10/7 | 5-6 PM | Tech Class: Intro to AI

What is AI?  Join us to learn the basics of AI.  After this tech class, you’ll be able to: 

  • Define terms like generative AI, large language models, and algorithms at a basic level.
  • Identify signs of AI use and tools.
  • Recognize potential benefits and costs/concerns.
  • Practice avoiding and disabling AI.

A class is offered on 10/7 and 10/23.  Please only register for and attend one session. Led by HPL staff.

10/7 | 6:30-8 PM | Fiber Arts Group

Calling all fiber artists! Bring your current project(s) of knitting, crocheting, hand stitching, hand quilting, and embroidery, or whatever else, to work on in the company of other fiber arts enthusiasts! Instruction is not offered at this event but fellow attendees are always happy to offer advice when they can.

No registration needed. Drop in at any point during the 90-minute block!

10/8 | 6-8:30 PM | Adult Game Night

Join us on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month for a night of board games at the Haverhill Public Library! Strategy games, abstract games, filler games, complex and non complex alike, come and try out whatever you like. Feel free to bring your own games! All experience levels are welcome.

Are you looking to improve your conversational Spanish in a supportive and friendly environment? Join us the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 11 AM-12 PM. Come practice your Spanish speaking and learn some vocab!

  • Instruction on any of the library’s digital resources, such as: Libby (free eBooks & eAudiobooks), Kanopy (video streaming), and Freegal (music streaming)
  • Basic smartphone & tablet help
  • Basic computer & email support

Join the HPL Read Anything Club!

This group of anyone 18 or older will feature books across the literary spectrum – whatever genre piques your interest!

We will meet the 4th Saturday of each month. No registration necessary – you can simply pick up a book (limited copies, first come, first served) on the holds shelf in the front of the library.

Our October book will be The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

10/26 | 7-8:15 PM | VIRTUAL Even More Haunted Lighthouses of New England!

Lighthouses and ghost stories often seem to go hand in hand. In the past, Jeremy has discussed the lovelorn spirit known as Ernie at Connecticut’s New London Ledge Light and the piano playing ghost of Maine’s Seguin Light, among others as well as about the mysterious Woman in White in the Isles of Shoals and the spirit of a drowned lighthouse keeper at Penfield Reef in Connecticut. This time, who knows what fascinating and haunting tales Jeremy will come up with.

This program is brought to you in collaboration with the Chelmsford, Groton, and Tewksbury Libraries, plus partnerships with a multitude of additional MA & NH Libraries. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Public Library.

Create charming toadstools using wool and a barbed needle on felt, stretched over an embroidery hoop.  Pop up Art School will guide you through the basics of needle felting wool.  Needle felting is fun, easy, and relaxing.
