Student testimonials:

Being a page was a very enjoyable experience for me because of my love of books. One of my favorite parts of participating in this program was working in the children’s room. One thing I always noticed were the teenagers that helped out around the library while I was there. Getting to see kids enjoying the library was an amazing feeling. It brought back wonderful memories and I am happy that I was able to play a part in that, even if it was a small one.The Page Scholarship Program provides a great opportunity to college-bound students to not only serve in the community, but upon completion, gives the recipient a substantial amount of financial support towards college. For this, I am incredibly grateful and will apply the funds towards my Bachelors degree at Salem State University. I truly appreciate having been a part of this scholarship program. This was a very enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

I think what I enjoyed most about volunteering was that I felt like I was giving back to my community, something that I have also particularly enjoyed during my summer job at Plugs Pond. I think that from doing this I have gained some level of patience and understanding which I hope I will be able to use in the future as I become a music teacher for younger children.

This was the first time I got to see how the library works and what it was like to be a librarian. I am going to continue to volunteer at the Haverhill Public library as long as I can. I will be attending Northern Essex Community College in the fall. I am hoping to get a library work study job if I qualify for financial aid. This volunteer experience has helped me gain job experience and self-confidence. Thank you for allowing me to have this wonderful opportunity.

When I started this internship back in Junior year, I didn’t expect how much fun I’d have working at the library. Though much of what I did was the same as volunteer work, I found this experience to be a lot different from volunteering back in Freshman year. I met new people, did new things, and had such a fun time with everything, even shelving. A lot of the tasks seemed menial, but coming from a long, stressful school day and being able to just go shelve some books (while taking a peak at a few along the way) or go fold papers or cut out pictures for a while was actually really calming. I think I’m going to miss this internship a bit, if only because now I don’t have a reason to come back every Tuesday and Thursday and sit in the young adult section with a cart full of returns. I’ll most likely be signing up to volunteer again, it has been such a wonderful time these last few years. I’ve loved working at the library, and hope to continue to do so.
