Student testimonials:

While volunteering, I saw people of all ages playing games, socializing, reading, studying, and utilizing programs such as community outreach, movie night, and tutoring. Furthermore, the library taught me that a positive workplace culture had a significant impact on my enjoyment and fulfillment of my volunteership. Talking to the employees created a supportive system that helped me navigate and enjoy my time at the library.
All in all, the resources at the library were extremely beneficial as they boosted my personal growth, helped me succeed academically, emphasized a community that was supportive and friendly, and provided a space where I could make a meaningful impact on the community. Therefore, volunteering at the library was one of the most impactful and memorable experiences of my high school career.

Whether it was reshelving books or helping dust the shelves, I found a quiet satisfaction in the routine and rhythm of keeping the space organized and welcoming. I gained a deeper appreciation for the work that goes into maintaining a public resource so many people rely on, and I also developed a stronger sense of responsibility and attention to detail.

Being a page was a very enjoyable experience for me because of my love of books. One of my favorite parts of participating in this program was working in the children’s room. One thing I always noticed were the teenagers that helped out around the library while I was there. Getting to see kids enjoying the library was an amazing feeling. It brought back wonderful memories and I am happy that I was able to play a part in that, even if it was a small one.The Page Scholarship Program provides a great opportunity to college-bound students to not only serve in the community, but upon completion, gives the recipient a substantial amount of financial support towards college. For this, I am incredibly grateful and will apply the funds towards my Bachelors degree at Salem State University. I truly appreciate having been a part of this scholarship program. This was a very enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

I think what I enjoyed most about volunteering was that I felt like I was giving back to my community, something that I have also particularly enjoyed during my summer job at Plugs Pond. I think that from doing this I have gained some level of patience and understanding which I hope I will be able to use in the future as I become a music teacher for younger children.
