This modern adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories features a female-led cast that’s packed with as much adventure as the original stories. Set in Tokyo, Japan, the story follows Sara “Sherlock” Futaba and Dr. Wato Tachibana’s chance meeting after the murder of Wato’s close friend and teacher. As their friendship and crime-solving partnership grows, the two find themselves helping the police investigate multiple crimes that have connections to an underground syndicate.
Fans of Sherlock Holmes will find “Miss Sherlock” reminiscent of the BBC Sherlock series, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Since I was a huge fan of the BBC series and the books, I wanted to give this show and try and see what all of the internet hype was about. This show did not disappoint and will keep you guessing until the very end. Though the show ended after only one season in honor of Sherlock’s actress, Yuko Takeuchi’s, passing, it leaves you satisfied and ready to re-watch again and again.
