11/5 | 9:30-11:30 AM | VIRTUAL 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group — Networking 2.0 (“You Must Give To Get”)

This week’s topic (November 5) is Networking 2.0! The Library 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group meets via Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 9:30am to 11:30am. Informal networking takes place from 9am to 9:30am and 11:30am to noon. If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your “Encore Career,” this networking group program is perfect for you! Remember, 85% of jobs are found through networking!

Calling all fiber artists! Bring your current project(s) of knitting, crocheting, hand stitching, hand quilting, and embroidery, or whatever else, to work on in the company of other fiber arts enthusiasts! Instruction is not offered at this event but fellow attendees are always happy to offer advice when they can.

No registration needed. Drop in at any point during the 90-minute block!

This program is for adults.

Do you want to develop computer skills and receive a FREE Chromebook that you can keep? Join us for a weekly computer class on Thursday mornings!

Learn a range of skills, like protecting your privacy online, accessing a world of information, connecting with loved ones, and expanding your social circle.

You must attend and complete 5 of the 6 classes to receive the free Chromebook.

11/7 & 11/14 | Both at 2-3 PM | Internet Basics I & II

For those who have never touched a computer or have limited mouse skills, this class will introduce the basics of having a computer, mouse and keyboard. We will also explore how to find information online and develop web browsing skills.

This is a two-part program. Session 1 is on November 7, and session 2 is on November 14. Both sessions will take place in the computer lab on the second floor of the library. Registering here will sign you up for both sessions.

Socialize & make a mini puzzle that you can keep!  Pieces are very small!  Puzzles are 150 pieces & measure 4×6 inches when done.

Join us for our cookbook club!

We’ll all cook a different recipe from one cookbook and then bring the dishes in to share and discuss, potluck-style! This month we will meet 11/12 in the auditorium because of the holiday. 

Register as usual.

Pick up and check out a copy of the cookbook from the Holds shelf.

Reserve the recipe you’d like to cook by emailing programming@haverhillpl.org. Reserved recipes will be listed there.

You can cook anything from the book except alcoholic recipes (beverages, etc.).

Space is limited.

We will provide plates, eating utensils, and napkins (feel free to bring as well). Please bring serving utensils.

We cannot reheat or warm anything at the library.

Per Massachusetts state law we need to let you know that neither the food nor the facilities have been inspected by the state or by a local public health agency. We cannot guarantee that food served at library programs does not contain tree nuts, soy, or other allergens.

11/15 | 1-4 PM | Visible Mending Workshop

Learn the basics of visible mending!  Beginners are welcome.  Learn 5 or 6 basic stitches which can be used to mend any kind of textile.

Please bring items that need repair with you so you can get started, or make a sampler using the stitches and techniques taught in the class.  All materials are supplied.

Get a jump start on renewing and refreshing beloved textiles!

Curious about mat Pilates?

Join Ngoc Tran for a special introductory class and discover what mat Pilates is all about!  Whether you’re new to Pilates or looking to reconnect with your practice, this is a welcoming space to explore movement, breath, and strength.  Mat Pilates is a low impact exercise, building strength, flexibility, and body awareness —all using just a mat and your own body weight.

What to expect in class:

-A gentle warm-up

-A series of floor exercises targeting different muscle groups

-A cool-down with stretching and breathwork

Make and keep up to two pieces of beaded jewelry!  Teens and adults welcome!

Instructor Zangar Freeman will lead participants through this “Bead Therapy” workshop.  The materials used are semi-precious stones and other natural jewelry materials.  Bead Therapy is very interactive and meditative.  It gives the participants the creative power to express how they feel and allows them to see how their feelings look in the form of art they produced.  This workshop will teach the basics of beaded jewelry making and the difference between semi-precious stones and precious stones.  The goal of Bead Therapy is to create a safe space for self-expression to create a piece of art that represents the emotions of the creator.

As the cold weather approaches, we face the season of colds, viruses, and respiratory infections.  In this educational seminar, we will review some important tips on how to differentiate between common cold symptoms and the more severe signs of respiratory infections.  We will also review preventative measures on how to avoid becoming sick.  Knowing the differences in your symptoms will enable you to seek the proper medical care needed to recover more quickly and with less complications.

Join the HPL Read Anything Club!

This group of anyone 18 or older will feature books across the literary spectrum – whatever genre piques your interest!

We will meet the 4th Saturday of each month. No registration necessary – you can simply pick up a book (limited copies, first come, first served) on the holds shelf in the front of the library.

*There will be no meeting in December, but book club will start again in January 2026!

Our November book will be A Catered Thanksgiving by Isis Crawford.

11/22 | 1-2 PM | Guided Meditation Class

A guided mindfulness meditation for all levels. Perfect for beginners!

Class will include:

  • A review of mindfulness meditation and its benefits.
  • Focus on breath. 
  • Short practices of 5 to 10 minutes each of guided meditation. 

Class is one hour long, and students are welcome to bring yoga mats or blankets to sit on.

11/25 | 7-8 PM | VIRTUAL How 500 Years of Colonialism Has Impacted the Abenaki Peoples of the Northeast

The “People of the Dawnland” (Abenaki/Wabanaki) of New Hampshire and the Northeast are the first Indigenous peoples in North America to have had contact with Europeans. In this presentation, Anne Jennison examines how European colonization of North America impacted generations of Abenaki/Wabanaki people and highlights the ways in which the Abenaki/Wabanaki peoples have acted as agents of their own change through education, self-advocacy, efforts to revitalize their languages and traditional arts, and by working with archeologists, anthropologists, and scientists to recover and reveal more about their history and traditional knowledge.
