KICKOFF EVENT

Register for the Plant a Seed, Read iREAD Summer Reading Challenge on Beanstack or in person starting Friday, June 26!  We’ll kick off summer with a day of fun activities!  Programs with an asterisk (*) require registration.

Entomology 101* |  9:30-10:30 AM

What do bugs do to help our environment and keep us comfortable, even make food for us? Learn these answers and more while interacting with real live insects from New England! (Teens & adults)

Angora Wool Spinning* | 11:00 AM-12:30 PM

Brush an angora rabbit and feed carrots too! Spin angora fiber on drop spindles made from recycled materials. Take home spindles and fiber to keep on spinning! (Ages 12-18)

Candle Dipping* | 1:30-3 PM

Dip and mold your own candle from vegetable or bees wax! Pick your own color and scent to make it truly your own! (Ages 6-11)

Traveling Farm | 3:30-4:30 PM

Meet the animals on the farm, learn about their contribution to sustainable agriculture, and pet them too! (All ages welcome)

Fermented Pickles with F-Word Farming*

Wednesday, July 8 | 6-7 PM

At this class on food preservation, you will learn the fundamentals of lacto-fermentation via a demonstration of how to make a carrot (or other seasonal) fermented pickle. Emily Makrez, owner of F-Word Farm and educator on all things fermenting, farming, and foraging related, will show you how to pickle what’s in season to make the most of your harvest and prevent food waste. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to be able to safely ferment practically anything! We will also touch on the benefits of lacto-fermented food and how adding these foods to our diets are a benefit to our overall health.

Adult Craft: Make Your Own Felt Emotional Support Chicken*

Plant Swap

Saturday, July 18 | 2-3 PM

Take a plant, leave a plant! Stop in anytime between 11 AM – 12 PM to get a new-to-you plant!  Visit our Events page for all the requirements!

Build a LEGO Succulent*

Wednesday, August 12 | 6-7 PM

Join us for an evening of LEGO fun for ages 18+ Participants will build and keep a LEGO succulent.

At each of our featured adult programs (except the craft), we’re giving away a FREE tote bag from a random draw at each event! Attend for a chance to win! Perfect for your next trip to the Farmer’s Market!

READING CHALLENGE

The reading challenge will open on Saturday, June 20.  Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up on the Beanstack app, or stop in to get a physical bingo card, to learn more & get started!  Try the Beanstack app or website to conveniently track reading and activity challenges. 
  2. Choose a packet of seeds at the Reference Desk when you sign up!
  3. Read & complete activities all summer.  These will earn you tickets for exciting weekly prizes throughout the summer!
  4. Enter for weekly prize drawings in July & August.
  5. Stay tuned for our grand prize drawing in September, which includes a 1-year Family Membership donated by Mass Audubon (an $85 value!)
