  • Accessibility of materials from the affected areas – some items will be unavailable, while other items may be relocated

JUNE 1, 2026 UPDATE:

PARKING LOT:

Please do not park in the center rows (orange rectangle as seen in photo below) of the parking lot adjacent to the Haverhill Public Library during construction starting June 2, 2026. We appreciate your understanding!

SUMMER STREET ENTRANCE:

The Summer Street doors and book drop will be closed and inaccessible as of June 2, 2026.

PHASE I: 3rd Floor

STATUS: In-Progress

  • Fencing has been installed around the building and parking lot.
  • No parking allowed in the center section of the parking lot.
  • Summer St. entrance and book drop are currently CLOSED.
  • 3rd Floor/Special Collections currently CLOSED – click HERE for more information on Special Collections
  • Special Collections materials have been moved off-site
  • 3rd floor offices relocated to the Auditorium
  • Check back soon for official “groundbreaking” date

Phase I expected to take 3-6 months to complete.

Phase I includes:

  • Moving Special Collections offsite: Collection will be unavailable until further notice.
  • New roof
  • New energy efficient windows
  • New exterior
  • Updates to Special Collections Reading Room

What is UNAVAILABLE during this Phase:

  • All access to the 3rd floor
  • Koleksyon espesyal
  • Johnson Auditorium
  • Summer St. entrance and Summer St. book drop

What is AVAILABLE during this Phase:

  • Senter Digital Collection
  • Main entrance (Stage St. parking lot), Main Entrance Book Drop, and Main Entrance Automated Book Return
  • Elevator (1st and 2nd floor)
  • Children’s Room – collection, computers, Cavallaro Room
  • 1st floor – all books and materials, computers, seating and Milhendler Conference Room

Remaining Phases:

  • PHASE II: 2nd Floor
  • PHASE III: 1st Floor (Teen, Public Computers, Reference, and Non-Fiction)
  • PHASE IV: 1st Floor (Main Entrance, Circulation, Fiction)
