Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the HPL Building Project. Check back as we will update as the work progresses!
What is included in the renovation?
For the exterior, there will be a new roof, windows, exterior siding, and entryways. On the interior, there will be updates to each floor. The fountain and the spiral staircase are remaining!
How is the renovation being funded?
This project is being paid for by the Trustees with a gift they received from Olive Reynolds Macdougall along with other private donated funds. No tax dollars will be used to pay for the renovation. Click this link to learn more about Olive Reynolds Macdougall.
Will the library close?
The renovation will be completed in 4 phases which will allow us to remain open. Each phase will close a section of the library for approximately 4-6 months.
Can we get items from closed sections?
Yes and no. Special Collections is moving off-site to protect the collection and will not be available. As other areas close, we hope to make some of these collections accessible in the sections of the library that are open.
Where can I park?
Parking in the city lot adjacent to the library will be limited. Patrons may find parking on Ginty Blvd, Stage or Summer Streets surrounding the library. There is also parking at City Hall or in the new parking garage.
Can I still pick up holds?
Yes! You can still request books and pick up your holds for the duration of the building project.
Will the computers and printer be available?
Yes! The computers and printer should be available for the duration of the project. When working on that area, a few PCs will be relocated to allow for continued access.
Can I still fax and copy?
Yes! Faxing and copying should be available for the duration of the project.
Will there still be programs?
Yes! Programming will continue, but at times may need to be adjusted. Some regular programs may need to pause until areas are completed, but other programming will run. We will also be using alternative sites around Haverhill to host our programs!
