“Believe in the Hail Mary”

Science teacher Ryland Grace wakes up on a spaceship with no recollection of how or why he’s in space. We learn through flashbacks of a mysterious substance wreaking havoc on the solar system and why Grace is the right person to fix it. Between flashbacks, we follow Grace’s mission and his successes and failures along the way, and the help he finds, too. It’s science heavy, but not so much that it’s alienating to the average viewer. Based on the novel by Andy Weir of the same name, this is a sci-fi movie that will entertain even those who typically stay outside of the genre.

It was hard not to feel hopeful walking out of the theater after Project Hail Mary, and that was its goal. The beautiful cinematography (no greenscreens were used, by the way!), music, and storytelling truly make the viewer believe in the Hail Mary. But be warned—it is an emotional roller coaster I was NOT prepared for.
